Olympic Day 41st edition, Șirnea 2023

Joy, emotion, tradition, friendship, sport and fair play! Children and sports lovers from the region of Brașov and Bucharest also had a chance to participate in all of this, who participated in the 41st edition of the Olympic Day in Şirnea, which took place on June 23-24.< /p>

At the foot of Pietra Craiului, cultural and sporting events took place under the motto “Citius Altius Fortius”, where children competed in the School Olympic Pentathlon competition for the third millennium, participating in sporting, theoretical and artistic tests and the lovers of sports participated in the traditional “Olympic Day” cross-country race and the bicycle marathon race on the Brașov – Şirnea route.

Cultural moments, musical concerts and dancing were also included in the event. The artistic program was provided by the Efthymos Ensemble, the “Amadeus” Ensemble from Zărnești, the “Astra Junior” Ensemble from Săcele and the Poiana Mărului High School Ensemble.

Sânziene Night was also celebrated and marked according to customs and traditions, through a series of events that started with the vesper service, followed by a literary session and picking of Sânziene flowers to musical chords. The night ended with the “Lighted Night” event, the entire program being completed by music  and poetry with the “Gaudeamus” Quartet.

TEMAD was also present this year with the athletes, offering all participants WD-40 products and discount vouchers.

Olympic Day 40th edition, Șirnea 2022

The jubilee edition of the Olympic Day, reaching its 40th edition, took place on June 22-23, 2022, in the town  at the foot of Pietra Craiului and united approximately 400 participating children.< /p>

At the start of the cross-country race, students from 22 schools in Brașov gathered, athletes from the biathlon and cross-country skiing sections of the Dinamo Râșnov School Sports Club, children in a camp in Şirnea and juniors from the fencers of a club from Ukraine who came from Bucharest to Șirnea especially for the Olympic Day.

The start of the cross-country race took place, as every year, at the Heroes’ Monument, and the arrival of the participants and the cyclists who started the traditional 42km Velomarathon took place at the Olympic Arena.

The Olympic Flame was carried by Maricica Puică, gold winner in the 3000m at 1984 Summer Olympic Games from Los Angeles.&nbsp ;The lighting of the Olympic Torch took place at the “Nicolae Frunteș” Museum, according to the Olympic ritual, and five vestals wore it on the plinth specially arranged in the Arena.

Among the celebrities who were present at this year’s events were Simona Amânar, the director of AOR and multiple Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics, Mihai Covaliu, the president of COSR and special guests from the Greek town of Olimpia .

The artistic program was provided by the famous and beloved folk music performer Veta Biriș, by the “Eftimos” Ensemble, the “Dionisos” Choir, Elena Brașov Community, the “Amadeus” Ensemble, Zărnești Ensemble “Astra Junior” Săcele and Poiana High School Ensemble  The apple.

Sânziene Night was also celebrated according to customs and traditions, being complemented by music and poetry.

TEMAD was also present this year with the little athletes, offering the participants products BISON, UHU and WD-40.

Olympic Day 39th edition, Șirnea 2021

Since January 1948, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has established June 23 as “Olympic Day”, to mark the creation of the international Olympic forum, on June 23, 1894, in Paris. Currently, “Olympic Day” is celebrated by hundreds of thousands of people, in over 170 countries.

It has become a tradition for “Olympic Day” to be celebrated in the tourist village of Şirnea, in Brașov county, where professor Radu Frunteş has organized, for years, numerous cultural and sports events that accompanied the celebration.&nbsp ;

The 39th edition was held under the Olympic motto “Citius, Altius, Fortius”, and this tradition was not interrupted even by the pandemic.

Gospel Zappa 1800-1865

“We will celebrate the personality of Evanghelie Zappa (personality who contributed to the revival of the Olympic Games – n.r.), a Romanianized Greek who organized, for 40 years, the first Olympic Games, before Athens. (.. .) Continue this thread, the resumption of the Olympic Games and here we are now preparing for the Tokyo Games.

 We have very beautiful images, we also have a film, with the presentation of the ceremony in Olympia, from last year, when the Olympic flame was lit. It’s a historic moment. The torch burned for a year, until the organization of the Games”, tells us Professor Radu Frunteș
 
The sports competitions started already on Tuesday, June 22, when 26 children started in ” School Olympic pentathlon for the 3rd millennium”, participating in the sports, theoretical and artistic test.

These being rewarded with sweets and school products from the company Temad Romania .

On the morning of the 23rd, the BRASOV-SIRNEA Bicycle Marathon started. A route of over 45 km, crowned by the passion, dedication and sporting spirit of an impressive number of cyclists of all ages.

The program was completed with the presentation of the book “ONOARE LUI EVANGHELIE ZAPPA” (novelism – leniency – Olympism) by Nicolae Postolache at the “Nicolae Fruntes” Museum, followed by a short film screening – the Olympic Flame Lighting Ceremony for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.

The event could not miss the cross country representative of the Olympic Day, which was attended by children from various schools in Brasov county.

The cross was led with the Olympic flag in hand by Maricica Puică, Olympic champion in athletics, and at the finish line, the children were awaited by the Olympic champion Mihai Covaliu, also the president of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee. He gave them all medals and diplomas, all of them being winners.

After the end of the cross-country race, the Olympic Spirit was enlivened by five vestals who carried the Olympic Rings and symbolically lit the Olympic Flame for each of the XXXI editions of the Summer Olympic Games so far,  and the message of the president of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach, transmitted by Mihai Covaliu, gave solemnity to the beautiful event.

The artistic moments  continued with the beloved folk music performer Veta Biriș, the “Eftimos” Ensemble from Brașov, the “Trei Parale” band and the folk ensemble Astra Junior from Săcele.

For the first time on Olympic Day, several members of the philharmonic from Brașov were present at the Olympic Arena in Şirnea, to welcome the cyclists who participated in the traditional bike marathon – BRASOV – ŞIRNEA with fanfare. The Philharmonic subsequently held a tribute concert called “Honoring Evangelie Zappa”
